Dreaming of Peaches

Marshall Branstool, the son of grain and hog farmers MaryJo and Gene Branstool, graduated high school with a dream of becoming a peach farmer. He rented land from his father and uncle to start his dream and worked second shift as a machinist in Mount Vernon, Ohio, for 15 years building his business and his knowledge. He sold his peaches under a yellow and white stripped tent in his parent’s front yard those first few years.

In the early 90’s, he purchased the land where the orchard currently sits. He built a market and added apples and pears to the farm to go along with his wonderful peaches.

Marshall’s significant other, Cindy, joined him on the farm in 2018, bringing even more life to the orchard and market. The two of them together continue to expand the business, adding a free playground area in 2019, cut your own flowers in 2020, fresh donuts in 2021, the Peach Pit Plant Shop in 2024, and the Happy Apple Eatery Food Truck in 2026. An Off-Season Self-Serve Farm Shop is also opening in December of 2026.

More than 43 years later, Marshall’s dream is still very much alive. The peaches are mouthwateringly delicious, the apples are crispy and sweet, the orchard is beautiful and well-maintained, and the people keep coming for homegrown fruit, farm foods, and fun. It is truly a dream to have a life growing fruit for our community!
